I saw these simple luxurious pillows from www.AvivaStanoff.com at Market. Everything at the Aviva Stanoff Design Studio is made to order by hand. The velvet pillows are hand dyed and real objects are pressed into the fabric. The silks are dyed in small batches , etched and painted one at a time. No two pillows are alike. When you touch them you feel how each is engraved deeply with such exquisite detail as in nature. Things from nature have a quiet undeclared beauty waiting to be discovered. If we are in too big of a hurry, we might just miss it. Aviva captures these joyous imperfections in her pillows.

Mitch turned the BIG _ _ , yes a half of century. You remember the home of Mark and Mitch ( We Like a Challenge blog) They are our clients, but most of all, our dear friends. The party given by Mark and hosted in the home of Debbie another client/dear friend ( Remarkable Renovations) was a 1979 theme, Mitch's favorite year. I will let the pictures speak for me. We love you Mitch HAPPY BIRTHDAY, and Mark you throw one hell of a party. I thought I was back at Studio 54.

Art Show to Honor Artist

Chun Yan's work included drawings as well as landscapes in pastel and oils.

The Noyes Museum is located on a scenic lake near Stockton College.

The crowds were amazing and all were buying.
My sister purchased this painting , Chun Yan oldest son (10 yrs.) told us his mom painted this in college. She won a prestigious award for it in China.
I purchased this: It is a painting of a house we own, and spent about 25 summers in. Its on the Bay in Somers point N.J. I could not believe she painted it, how could I not buy it.


Her oldest son choose this painting to keep. He said they vacationed there in Main and his Mom was happy painting.



Last evening I attended an Art Show honoring the life of Chun Yan Hilyard. Chun Yan was a victim of domestic violence, and leaves behind three young sons. The Noyes Museum in Egg Harbor Township N.J. along with friends of Chun Yan hosted a sale of more than 200 pieces of her work. The money raised will benefit her sons. Chun Yan Hilyard was formally trained in China from an early age. She has quickly become one of the premier impressionistic landscape artist in our area. I was so impressed by the massive turnout to honor this woman and saddened at our loss of such a phenomenal artist and teacher. Thanks to Chun Yan friends and the Noyes Museum, her sons will have a lasting memory of how important and loved their Mother was. It truly was a wonderful night. The boys will be moving to South Africa to live with their Grandparents.

The English Have it Right

I was in CVS picking up my stock of faux tanner and I glanced at the counter magazine rack. Headlines read: What's in What's Out - Sexy Look Dos and Don'ts - Color Forecast for Summer _ 25 Quick Fixes for Every Room - Big Advice for Decorating and on and on and on. Made me think, what happened to being comfortable in your own skin, not following trends, putting your own spin on a room. If we listen to all this advice our homes should be redone every year. I agree a home should evolve, but what about timeless design. I think one of the biggest mistakes we can make is to be obsessed with perfection. I drove home pondering how I or all of us could get caught up in " whats in style" Picked up my mail and there it was, my second issue of The English Home. The English get it. The homes shown while beautiful, were far from perfect. You see few trendy items but they were very stylish. The sofas can be a bit worn, dishes and cups that don't match,furniture both new and old, just a look that has grown over time. A quote that caught my eye reads "Masterpieces cannot be completed in a day',the owners home in Cotswold has taken 17 years to perfect. ( and I want everything yesterday) With classic design a room that was decorated 17 years ago will look good today and 17 years from now. ( with maybe just a little fluffing)

I am friends with a designer Barry L Wingard on Face Book. He always post the most amazing photos - art, antiques, architecture, and today unbelievable decorated rooms. The rooms are by Art& Deco. I clicked on there page but it's either in French or Arabic- not sure I should be messing here ( we all know how naive I am on the web) But they were too good not to share with you.
