Pretty bed Linens

In the Late 70's early 80's I was a linen buyer for John Wanamaker's and the sheets were beautiful, we had Dior rose, Laura Ashley , and so many prints we were using for everything. Drapes, slipcovers, tablecloths, it was a thrifty way to spruce up a room. Ralph introduced his home line and OMG we were mixing patterns and plaids and checks. Then we went solid, thread count was more important than pattern. OK I was caught up in this sophisticated look. I wanted my bed to in all white with maybe just a stripe of color. - BUT IT WAS BORING- Last night while I was flipping through Lonny Magazine for the hundredth time I noticed the article on linens. Wow, there back in full color. All the big names in home are using pattern or color. Kate Spade you read my mind "Hello Sunshine". Check out these lines as well Serena and Lily
Leontine Linens D Porthault Dwell Studio and of course Ralph Lauren

Check Out Lee Industries

You may notice a new sponsor in the upper right corner. Click on it to discover the trendiest, best constructed, line of upholstered furniture around. PRS has been carrying this line for nine years and it is my favorite. Not only do they have a selection of fabrics to die for but you can use your own if you choose. You can customize pieces with nail heads, trims, skirts, piping, different pillows, whatever you desire. All for a moderate price. Besides chairs, sofas, and ottomans, you will find beds, screens, and even a cool line of outdoor furniture. Best of all they are a super company to work with. Even when I screw up they come to my rescue. A trait not often found in this industry. They are also earth friendly, a responsibility we all have to take a part in.

Love the look of solid linen headboards but love these floral even more. Lee are you starting a new trend ?
Check out the blue leather bench. Yes, they have a great collection of leather .
I am seeing the colors blue and green together quite often lately. Even I am using this combination in two different beach houses I am working on. New Trend ?

Don't forget to notice their slipcover line. Perfect for your family room or beach house.
So if no one wants to sit on that uncomfortable sofa any more, or your room just needs updating call us. We have all the fabrics in our studio, and it's what is in my house.

Changes Are Being Made

You may notice I am starting to make a few changes. Time goes on and every once in a while we need to stop and make a few "life adjustments". I have felt the need for the last six months, and have been contemplating just what direction I should be going. Lots of consideration has gone into this decisions - what's best for B.C. and I - will my children be effected - should I just continue doing the same till I retire - do I really need to start a new business - why upset the cart - and so on and so on. Personally, I think that if you are not learning and pushing life is pretty much over. O.K. I do see the need to relax and enjoy what I have, that's all part of this new conformance of my life. I need time to devote to my painting, enter more art shows, and take on more commission pieces. There are several pieces stacking up now that I can't seem to complete. Truthfully, I am getting a little weary of running around, climbing ladders, and designing show houses, but here is the problem. I love the business, love you my customers, love color ,paints, fabrics, furniture, just not leaving my home. So I am turning my attention to Design Online, a business I started several months ago. With this endeavor I can design your room for a set price online. I'll need you to answer a few questions, and send me a few measurements and in about four to six weeks I'll send you a complete room in a box. I will include a design board , fabric samples, window treatments, floor plans and a complete resource list of where you can buy all the items, or you can order them through us. How easy is that! The site is set up on my web page www.paintedriverstudios.com, you can even pay with pay pal. PRS will still travel to all the furniture markets and keep you updated on the latest home fashion trends and we are always just a phone call away. Don't panic, I am not quitting my day job just yet, but I intend to start promoting my new site and getting ready for good things to come . There is still lots of work to be done and I need to start marketing the concept . I have to say this blog has been one of the best parts of the past year for me. It has made me a little more tech savvy, helped my spelling, and challenged my mind, without it I would not even consider "Design Online". Of course I will continue to beg help from my tech support team Christine and Michael. Without them this would not be possible. So I am off to another chapter of my life and looking forward to the challenges and perks it has to offer.....

Time For A Little Sunshine

Not sure about you but I need a little yellow in my life. Just enough to hold me till spring.

Yellow

Father and baby wading through a field of yellow flowers

Vibrant yellow, bright and easily visible, is a great color to wear on dull, dark, or rainy days to add a little sunshine to your life. (It's also a good color to wear after dark if you're walking along busy streets.) The color projects love, light, warmth, and wealth, enhances communication, learning, mood, and energy level.

Generally, yellow combats gloom and fatigue. It opens up or brightens rooms, and pale tones are good choices for classrooms; warm tones good for play areas and living rooms. It's the most visible choice of background color for signs (with black lettering). People who wear yellow are perceived as sunny, intelligent, warm, and compatible. So wear gold (also in jewelry) or yellow when you're asking for a raise.

Sneak Peak

Lauren Santo Domingo's N.Y. apartment.

His sanctuary, they are an all vinyl house , no Cd's or iPod's here.

The neon pink stump is because a friend told her every house has to have one really ugly piece.

What a serving bar.

This is the perfect mix of a collection , the good, the fun,and color.

Guest room turned closet and office.

Her bath , the drawing leaning is by Aurel Schmidt.

Lauren has a theory, girls in their twenty's should not wear diamonds. Women in their forty's should. Thirties the perfect time to experiment with a mix of fine and costume. May I add to that, women in their fifties may wear what ever they please!!!!!

This TV room will become the nursery in April, 'congratulations" I think they will be removing the Warhol images of General Mao.

Lauren Santo Domingo Vogue's contributing editor gave a inside peak at her N.Y. apartment. WOW, talk about brave and eclectic ! The apartment is prof that in decorating you just need to be yourself. Show your collections, mix the expensive with the fun, and let it just feel lived in. I love it.....
